FITC_First meet with the designer team
Finally, I arrived Chicago safe and sound. This Monday June 11, 2007 will be the first day of my internship at Critical Mass, a big Canada based interactive media company, as a designer. I’ve talk to my soon-to-be mentor Carl Lukasewich. He’s an art director taking care of the city of Las Vegas client, mainly.
However, before the internship program starts, I had a chance to make an informal meeting with him and his colleagues at FITC conference. FITC - The Design and Technology Festival Road Show on June 8 2007 at Navy Pier was the first time for me to meet almost the whole designer team from Critical Mass. Everyone was nice so far. The sections were fine. I attended the whole day: Zen Flash Application Development by Craig Bryan & Ka Wai Cheung, Globalized Search Engine Friendly Flash by Scott Ingalls, Papervision3D - An Opensource by Ralph Hauwert, What's New with Flash CS3 Integration & Workflow by Richard Galvan, The Motion Graphics Dream Team: Using After Effects with Flash by Michael Coleman, GMUNKICKDOWN 07 by GMUNK, and Big Spaceship: Rich Media Entertainment Joshua Hirsch. It seem like I have a lot more to learn, and I should buy a new computer that can run CS3. Flash CS3 is sweet!
Anyway, these are what I picked up from the conference, mostly technical.
1. VDO is a great ingredient to web content. Since people don't read, VDO conveys better then text. Moreover, internet bandwidth is getting higher and higher. Rich contents are not big issues anymore.
2. Maya 3D motion graphic with physics simulation is an interesting tool.
3. The new After Effects is designed to work with Flash better for a reason. Use it.
For this weekend, I got a little assignment from Carl to write down what I expect to do during this internship.
Here it is:
For this internship program, I hope I can fill in many parts of the work flow, so I can utilize my wide-range of ability in order to find what fits me the best. By the way, each process does not have to be in order.
1. Creative development: Analysis client’s briefs and develop to
1.1 Design solutions
1.2 Marketing solutions
2. Design
2.1 Sketch
2.2 Optimize in Photoshop and Illustrator
2.3 Prepare design elements for web production
3. On-site production: Co-ordinating for the production
4. Web Developing: My coding skill is between intermediate and advance. I can develop the basic component but not dynamic server, but I think I can learn fast.
5. Motion Design: My After Effects is beginner to intermediate. I can work on concept too.
